What happens when someone interacts with parametric design for first time? This video shows how anybody can use and create anything with parametric design and the right tool, even if they do have any experience with design software!
These amazing parametric designs are a Kinetic art, Perpetual motion and a Marble Machine designed by veproject1.
Architectural designs are frequently represented digitally as plane-faced meshes, yet these can be challenging to translate into built structures. Offsetting operations may be used to give thickness to meshes, and are produced by offsetting the faces, edges, or vertices of the mesh in an appropriately defined normal direction.
This Kinetic Architecture & Art Video will showcase some of the examples of Kinetic design in Art and Architecture. Albahar Tower, Kiefer Technic showroom, Arab world institute, Megafon Pavilion, South Korea Pavilion (Expo 2012), Media-tic Facade, Shanghai Theatre facade & Flare Facade are some of the examples of how kinetic design affect buildings.
Nervous System is a design studio that works at the intersection of science, art, and technology. We create using a novel process that employs computer simulation to generate designs and digital fabrication to realize products.
Over the last few months we’ve been publishing short movies about shape-shifting architecture on our Facebook page. Here are ten of the best including parametric design projects with sliding walls, kinetic facades and rotating houses.
A pavilion integrated into the boardwalk sequence provides shelter for open-air classrooms on the site. Inspired by the tortoise shell, its laminated structure consists of prefabricated, bent-wood members and a series of interconnected fiberglass pods that give global curvature to the surface.
Diffusion Choir is a kinetic sculpture that uses 400 folding elements to reveal the movements of an invisible flock of birds. Its movements are always changing, driven by custom software running a flocking algorithm.
This parametric design video shows Aperactive (interactive aperture), by Hunter Ruthrauff, an interactive panel that opens based on user proximity. Its ability to be both opaque and transparent at the user’s discretion opens the doors to new possibilities to the relationship shared between private and public spaces.

In this parametric design video find out how we are using the BigRep ONE to 3D Print large scale furniture in one piece. Our 3D Designer Beatrice Müller is using the BigRep ONE to 3D Print Large Furniture, almost in one piece, only adding the padding afterwards. Firms across industries use BigRep’s large-format industrial 3D printer technology to reduce costs, develop better products and get to market quicker.
This parametric design video is about Nervous System, a Generative Design Studio. These generative design pieces, discovered by The Grommet, are inspired by the science of nature and created with 3d-printing or laser cutting technology.
In collaboration with Microsoft, Momentum the Kinetic Sculpture is now on permanent display at the Microsoft Theater. It made of locally sourced ash wood. Inspired by the Microsoft logo, the robotic sculpture is made up of 80 Ultramotion motors and 160 wooden tiles.
This parametric design video is about Wind Arbor by Ned Kahn on the western façade of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. which consists of over 260,000 aluminum “flappers”, blankets the hotel atrium’s external glass wall, creating a shimmering façade that responds to the environment.
This is a parametric design video about white canvas. An immersive audiovisual installation created by Cocolab. Commissioned by ARCA, presenting at TagCDMX 2016.
This paper presents a prototype tool for the space planning phase, which automatically generates alternative floor plans, according to the architect’s preferences and desires, and assesses their thermal performance by coupling it with dynamic simulation.
Bringing together experts from research and practice, Shell Structures for Architecture: Form Finding and Optimization presents contemporary design methods for shell and gridshell structures, covering form-finding and structural optimization techniques.
Theme “El Amor de Chile “ The Concept From the Atacama Desert to Patagonia, from its central green valleys to its eastern islands, extreme geographical diversity is a key feature of Chile’s showcase at Expo Milano 2015. As a main attraction, the pavilion takes visitors on a journey to experience its different ecosystems, deserts, rivers, valleys and mountains, showing how life …
Buitink Technology supplied and assembled a textile facade for the renovation of Markant in Uden. Buitink Technology cooperated with Herman Hertzberger. The textile facade is made of two membranes, each about 70 m long and 6 m height, tensed all around inside an aluminum structure.
You can see bigger versions of this scientific parametric design in museums and science departments. But we think this might be the first time it has been produced as an affordable table-top demonstration. Fifteen ball bearings hang from a frame, suspended on fine threads.
